Robust Engineering Design
You are to design an experiment to determine the importance of 5 variables: A, B, C, D, E on the results of the experiment. Specifically, which 2 variables are most important in determining the experimental result?
The value of each of the variables can be anywhere between -1 and +1. The excel spreadsheet below gives you the result of each test by placing the values of the variables in their respective columns, and seeing the result of the test in the 6th column.
In the example given, each value of A-E is zero. The test result is shown.
Replace the values given with your chosen values. To create a new test, add a line to the spreadsheet and copy the cell with the test result to a new line. The function will give a new test result.
The winner determines which two variables are important in the least number of tests (least number of lines in the spreadsheet).
Be warned: like all tests, there are experimental errors and repeating a test will give a different answer. This is normal.
Show your game file, your guess as to which two variables are most important, and how many tests it took to get your answer
