It is day one in your new job as Business Manager and you are learning what your role Involves. The General Manager of Operations, who Is mentoring you, has provided you wltl the following summary of current issues and problems you will face with your work team. You need to analyse the areas of concern and in particular focus on addressing these staff Issues and team performance difficulties. As a service industry business that relies greatly: professional, well-trained employees it makes sense to tackle staff concerns first. Issues you face with the selected team: I The team lacks morale and motivation I The team is not willing to work cohesively due to personality clashes o The team is unhappy with the hours they are required to work a Some of the staff do not appreciate having to work with others, including you the new Business Manager. its the newly appointed Business Manager, you are to conduct a team meeting with your department to address the staffing Issues above. Seven years' experience, they have worked in the business for 5 Mel & Helen: years Each have been working in industry approximately 2 years' Kelly & Troy: experience Is an office junior/receptionist/ administration assistant/ kitchen Donna hand George A new staff member (TAFE graduate) with limited experienceAs part of your preparation for the team meeting, you are required to address the follow points in a planning document, demonstrating your preparation for the meeting: 1. Consider the factors that could be contributing to low morale and poor performa as identified in the scenario and background above. 2. Compile a list of at least six (6) possible underlying causes. 3. Prepare an outline as to how you will overcome these identified problems. Revie Task 2 to understand how you are expected to conduct yourself in the meeting. will help you to prepare your outline. 4. Prepare a list of questions that you would ask the staff members during the meeting. You must be encouraging individuals to put forward ideas and suggestic and seek feedback - about what needs to change in order for the team to work effectively and efficiently. 5. Provide a brief outline of the business, naming your business and nature of operation (Hospitality or Events), include location and size of the business. Submit your planning and preparation document from this task to your assessor prior to moving on to Task 2 and conducting your team meeting, role-play.Background Max is annoyed that you were appointed as the Manager as he felt that he should have been promoted to the position. . Kelly and Troy are disappointed that the previous Manager left, as they were trained and nurtured by him. They are unsure and concerned there will be changes made an believe that they have not been told the full picture. You overhear them discussing the possibility of finding new jobs. . Donna is not sure about you as the new Manager, she is reluctant to come to you with problems. In the past, Max would help but he has been in a very bad mood. Mel seems to be the only person getting 'on with the job'. However because she is so efficient much of the workload has fallen on her. Mel arrives at work long before the others and regularly stays late to clear the backlog of the workload. Since you have arrived Helen has not stopped complaining and moaning about customers, other staff members - those that she clashed with, and the boring repetitive nature of her job. You sense that she has become demotivated and there i a real danger that she will affect others in the team and potentially cause conflict. George is new and very excited about his job but has no previous work experience and was not given any introduction into the Business, so consequently he is struggling to learn his new role
