Scenario: The responsibilities of the network engineers with International Learning Company include creating and managing the network, including connectivity to all regional offices, and Internet access via their service provider, ISP.

The icons in the figure below are representative of devices needed to be connected and configured to complete this phase.

Set up serial connections between Richmond, Charlotte, and Charleston.

Connect:

Richmond to Switch 3. Connect two servers to Switch 3

Charlotte to Switch 2

Switch 0 is connected to Switch 2

Charleston to Switch 1

Connect specific VLAN hosts to each switch for testing purposes.

Connect Richmond to the Linksys device.

Internet Connection via Linksys is for in-seat only classes.

Requirements and deliverables:

Requirements and deliverables:

The network is allocated one Class B private network: 172.20.0.0/16

Employ VLSM in your design to make efficient use of IP addresses as follows.

a) Point to point serial link interface networks need two host addresses each

b) Each core router is connected to subnetwork branches.

The Richmond server subnet must allow for expansion to 30 servers.

The Charlotte office has 4 VLANs as follows:

Administration: 14 hosts

Teachers: 62 host devices

Students: 512 host devices.

MIS: 14 hosts

The Charleston office has 4 VLANs as follows

Administration: 14 hosts

Teachers: 30 host devices

Students: 254 host devices.

MIS: 6 hosts

NOTE: Although it is not feasible with limited time/resources to implement the 800+ devices indicated above, you should have enough client PCs in place to demonstrate connectivity from one VLAN to another and to the Internet.

Choose a Routing Protocol that both meets the design requirements and is easy to administer. Implement the routing protocol and test connectivity across the network. (see exercise in table below)

Summarize all routes from each major network subset into the core.

In addition to planning for summarization in the IP Addressing schema, plan for 100% expansion in the number of VLANs/subnets attached to each router.

Plan for but do not implement VLANs yet. All hosts will initially be in VLAN 1.

Host devices should obtain their IP Addresses from a router acting as a DHCP server, one for each major connection to the core. DHCP will be used later. All initial addresses will use static addressing.

Internet Connectivity will be simulated through the Linksys Router WAN port. Configure the Linksys device WAN port with an Internet address outside of the 172.20.x.x network prefix. Advertise the WAN network and test connectivity. (In-seat only)

Document the topology configuration completely including all port numbers and IP addresses.

Document any major difficulties encountered and the steps taken to resolve them.

What were the implementation issues or limitations?

Make a suggestion for improving this network configuration and design.
