Using progressive discipline techniques and the Hot Stove Rules, explain how you would handle the following situations:

a) You are the assistant manager of a grocery store. Most of your employees are high school and university students. You are having trouble staffing the store on Sundays. The students consistently ask not to work on Sunday. Sunday is one of the busiest days in the store and all of the employees knew that they would be required to work on Sunday when they were hired. One of your best workers Jamil calls in sick on Sunday. When you are out on your lunch break you see Jamil in the mall with his friends.

b) One of your best workers has just sent you an angry email about a promotion. She feels that she should have received the promotion over the person who got it. The email is insulting and implies that you play favourites.

c) You have a worker that continually does not follow the safety rules and refuses keep his workspace clean. He says that is the job of the custodian not his. He publicly yells this when you ask him to clean up his workspace.
