Scope of Assignment: Writing a computer code that calculates the displacement, velocity and
acceleration response of a TSD system, whose dynamic behavior can only be characterized by
and Tn, using piecewise linear interpolation, finite differences and Newmark methods.
Software Language to be Used: Matlab
Ground Motion to be Used: N-S component of the El Centro station of the 1940 El Centro
earthquake. The ground motion can be downloaded from an existing strong motion database.
Attention should be paid to the t and unit of the downloaded file. It should also be noted that
its value at time t=0 is 0.
Required Analyzes: Using the software to be developed, calculate the response of the TSD system
by changing the c and Tn values. =0.01,0.10 and 0.20 to be used, Tn=0.5,1 and 2s to be used.
Content of the Assignment to be Delivered:
(1) All details of the developed software must be presented as output.
(2) The results obtained should be presented in graphics. Numerical values of the parameters
used must be given under each graph.
(3) Comments on the results should be given under each graph (such as the effect of the damping
ratio, the effect of the period, how the results change if they increase or decrease, what the
maximum value is and when these maximum values occur). Results should be presented in a
traceable way (tables can be made).
