Section 2: Task SpecificationYou are asked to design and implement a smart office environment system using the features and functionality of the examples from the course book, the practical classes, demonstrations in the lectures or other materials referred to within the scope of the module.Case StudyA globally renowned university is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to establish two campuses in the Sultanate of Oman, strategically located in Muscat and Sohar. With the vision of creating cutting-edge academic spaces, the university is set to commence a comprehensive infrastructure development project. The project is driven by a set of below mentioned requirements aimed at elevating workplace efficiency, comfort, and sustainability through the implementation of advanced smart environments.1. The design and implementation strategy emphasizes the integration of Microcontroller Units (MCUs) to monitor temperature, detect fire, and identify smoke in the University campuses. Additionally, the installation of Fire Sprinkler and Siron are desired, which should activate in response to high temperatures and the detection of fire and smoke. This temperature data and readings of other sensors will be displayed on Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) units connected to the MCUs, ensuring real-time visibility into the environmental conditions of the data center.2. A temperature monitoring system must be implemented, capable of surveilling ambient temperatures and executing predefined actions in accordance with specified conditions outlined in the configuration. Students are tasked with comprehending the optimal operational conditions for IT devices and formulating conditions that accurately mirror real-world scenarios. This involves devising a set of parameters that align with practical conditions to ensure the effective functionality of the IT equipment.3. For temperature control, the installation of a thermostat unit is imperative. This unit will effectively manage temperature by initiating or halting the operation of air coolers and heaters, ensuring precise regulation and optimal environmental conditions.4. When the temperature surpasses a predetermined threshold or a fire is detected, the fire sprinkler shall activate immediately. Furthermore, in the event of smoke detection, the Siron shall activate as a precautionary measure. Additionally, if multiple smoke detection sensors are triggered simultaneously and the temperature exhibits a sustained increase over a defined period, indicative of a potential fire outbreak, both the Fire Sprinkler systems and Siron system shall activate automatically to ensure comprehensive fire suppression measures are enacted.5. Design and implement a smart energy management solution for the university campuses, seamlessly integrating solar panels and battery backup. Establish a network infrastructure to enable real-time monitoring of solar energy production and battery status. Implement control algorithms to intelligently prioritize the utilization of solar energy by optimizing the operation of electrical appliances.6. A laptop or smart device is required for the building supervisor, granting access to systems for defining rules and conditions as per specifications. The design and implementation should account for remote access, ensuring a secure channel. This involves creating a robust infrastructure that enables the supervisor to remotely configure and monitor rules while maintaining the integrity and security of the accessed data.7. The absence of information for the Sohar Campus necessitates utilizing the available data to formulate the design and implementation strategy for the smart campus. This involves extrapolating the existing information to create a comprehensive plan that aligns with the requirements and objectives of establishing an intelligent and technologically advanced campus in Sohar. The design and implementation process will be tailored to the specific needs of the Sohar location, leveraging the insights gained from the available information. You will be required to demonstrate and discuss your working system using Packet Tracer/Arduino IDE.Section 3: DeliverablesYou are required to submit your work through the link to be provided on Moodle VLEas a single file (in the case of multiple need to be zipped). You may note that 80% and beyond marks require outstanding excellence in the works, which are expected to exceed the requirements outlined in the Case Study document and should be genuinely exceptional.Note: Individual must present their work in the form of a presentation of 20 minutes.Marking ProcessYou will be asked to demonstrate your developed smart environment as per the specification. The project must be runnable. It is your responsibility to attend scheduled classes failure to demonstrate your system in class will be treated as a non-submission.Any individual failing to take part in the demonstration will be assessed as a non- submission and given zero marks. The quality of verbal expression in this demonstration is important incoherent explanations will not achieve high marks. Please be advised that demonstrations last for a fixed duration, so be prepared to concisely demonstrate and explain your system.Test cases:The designed system will undergo thorough testing and assessment, encompassing the following functions:1. Login to the system (user = "admin", password= "admin") and once logged in, the IoT monitor should serve as the control interface, enabling the user to effectively manage and control devices via laptop or mobile devices. This integration ensures a user-friendly and accessible means of device management through the designated IoT monitoring platform.2. The system should include features that allow the display of the temperature monitor and thermostat functionalities prominently on the control panel. This ensures a user-friendly interface for implementing and managing rules and conditions related to temperature control. Users should have convenient access to real-time temperature data and thermostat settings, facilitating efficient control and customization of the environmental conditions within the system.3. The MCU should be customizable in a way that programming code can be executed on the MCU to take readings from the sensor and display that information on the LCD.4. The thermostat should be capable of regulating the temperature by controlling the operation of air coolers and heaters.5. Ensure that the fire sprinkler system and Siron system are synchronized and activated in coordination. Verify that changes in sensor readings prompt immediate responses from both systems. Test the responsiveness of the systems by adjusting sensor inputs and observing the corresponding activations.6. The Solar panels generate electricity and display accurate production readings. The battery backup system seamlessly switches to provide power during simulated power outage. Real-time monitoring interface displays accurate and synchronized data about solar energy production, battery status, and energy consumption.7. The systems of both campuses should be interconnected, and the same functionality can be included in both campuses or reduced in the Sohar campus.
