The Magic of Christmas at the Butchart Gardens (FIGURE #1) The event During Christmas and the holiday season, the Butchart Garden is decorated with Christmas lights, holiday wreaths. There are carolers, different stalls that offer festive dining, fun activities such as games, ice skating, etc. This is an exciting time for the whole community. Between the 1st of December and the 6th of January, multiple events and functions are organized, this is referred to as the Magic of the Christmas season. Christmas is a festive and cheerful time of the year and it is celebrated in high spirits at the Butchart Gardens. The citizens enjoy the Twelve Days of Christmas display, join the traditional Carollers, listen to the Festive brass, dine at the stalls offering festive food. Victoria, as a community is committed to urban sustainability, ecological integrity, and economic vitality. The municipal authorities and the community aim to achieve this through innovation. Even though different events are organized at different times in the city, the local authorities ensure that these do not have any social, environmental, or economic impact. To provide a safe environment that the families can enjoy, the park authorities have outlined certain rules that all visitors must follow at all times. - Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the premises. -All visitors should conduct themselves respectfully. . Costumes and costly of any kind are not allowed. -Visitors are expected to not pick owers or walk on ower beds. - Alcohol is not allowed on the premises. .During the twelve days of Christmas festivity, pets are not allowed. .Loud music and unauthorized performances are not allowed. *The use of BBQs is not allowed. Economic sustainability - The Butchart Garden authorities work towards protecting and nurturing the Gardens for the future. They believe that they are responsible for minimizing any negative impact on the earth and renew the health of the environment. Therefore, they have implemented various environmental initiatives such as -Re-purpose wastes into compost. Waste management is especially important during festive times when there is a large number of visitors at the same time. The authorities enforce strict adherence to the rules. - Use different weed control methods - Use drip irrigation - Pest management - Use of natural and biodegradable cleaners - Recycling facilities throughout the premises - Sourcing local and organic ingredients - Use of recyclable plates, glassware, etc. -Eradicate single-use items - Use of low-energy fixtures with motion sensor and timer - Temperature control through energy management control system - Use of low-ow toilets - Recycling the water from streams, the authorities maintain healthy clean, and high~quality drinking water. -The buildings are energy efcient, do not produce greenhouse gases. The additional set up during the Christmas festivities have to comply with the energy utilization requirements. Social Well -bcing The Butchart Garden authorities are committed to the social well being of the community: -The visitors move safely and efciently with professionally managed and convenient walking paths and bike trails. -Inclusion is an important criterion and therefore all services, amenities, buildings, facilities, and public space are wheelchair accessible. This ensures that all citizens can enjoy the festivities. -The authorities are committed to preserve and protect the cultural and natural heritage. Nourishing and safe food is made available to all visitors. All entities must follow strict quality checks. Economic vitality The Butchart Garden authorities are committed to generating and renewing new opportunities for the economic growth of the community: - By organizing such events, the government helps the travel and tourism industry to thrive and grow.
