Share an example of lean waste from your life. Explain how it relates to each of the types of waste in the TIM WOODS model.

T = Transportation I = Inventory M = Motion W = Waiting O = Overprocessing O = Overproduction D = Defects S = Skills

For example, when I was a kid I had a lemonade stand business.

Transportation = Walking the ingredients to my friends house and then to the end of her driveway.

Inventory = We ended up with more material than we were able to sell

Motion = Gathering art supplies to make signs would have been more efficient if the poster board was kept closer to the markers

Waiting = Waiting on the customers to purchase the product was downtime

Overprocessing = Putting the lemonade back in the cooler between every customer

Overproduction = Ending the day with more lemonade than we sold

Defects = Getting the ratios wrong when mixing the lemonade and water

Skills = We were kids, so we probably used all our skills to create a successful business. There wasn't waste here.
