Simulation: Judgement in a Crisis (400-500words):

In this single-player simulation, students play the role of a product manager at Matterhorn Health, a medical device manufacturer. The company recently launched GlucoGuage blood glucose monitor, the companys most expensive product development effort to date. In spite of vigorous pre-release testing, there are problems reported by customers almost immediately after launch. Throughout the simulation, students will use a series of desktop applications to receive communications from their colleagues about the problem at hand. They will receive a barrage of information through various channels, requesting that they determine the root cause of the issue and make recommendations on how Matterhorn can get ahead of this problem.

When the simulation is accessed from the course pack there are instructions and tutorials that will demonstrate how to play. Approximate time for completion is 60 minutes once the simulation is started. The final activity of the simulation is the deliverable, preparing for a press conference for which you will write a statement that will be uploaded to the simulation. Incorporation of class readings: Ethics, Justice, Personality, Learning, and Decision Making should prove helpful when preparing the statement. Length should be between 1-2 pages.

This simulation will provide students with an understanding of several factors which impair judgement and decision-making. It will also give students an opportunity to practice how managers should respond in a crisis situation, specifically a crisis pertaining to a safety or quality concern about a product or service.
