4 CASE SCENARIO REFER TO THE CASE SCENARIO BELOW TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION: 4. Identify one behaviour of Mrs. Johnson that is most likely influenced by culture:
You have been assigned to provide assistance to Mrs. Johnson. You visit Mrs. Johnson (a 90-year-old widow of Irish Canadian heritage) two times a week for a two-hour period. The care plan states that you are responsible for dusting, vacuuming and basic assistance care. Mrs. Johnson is Roman Catholic and conscientiously recites her beads (prayers) two or three times a day. She tells you that she does not eat meat on Fridays. In working with her, you discover that she wants a strict routine for housekeeping and that all of her things must be placed back in their exact places, following house cleaning. She stated that in her country, a woman's pride was based on having a clean house. Many of her meals consist of tea and toast and she never eats vegetables, stating that they are too hard to chew. You know that she sometimes has pain from arthritis; however, she seems to hide it."We don't talk about that. I can manage." In assisting her with morning care and dressing, she often will change her outfit three times before being satisfied. This cuts into your work time and you find it very frustrating. Her daughter visits once a week and when she left one day, you heard Mrs. Johnson say, "I don't know why she can't come more often." Her daughter was heard to mutter, "I am too busy. I wish I could come more often but there isn't time in the week."
