Social media has taken over since the start of myspace which was my first experience with social media. People are currently using it for fun, keeping in touch with family and friends, business, to influence, to help, and bring awareness to social issues. My social media is filled with people of different backgrounds that are using their social media for some of the different reasons listed above.

One positive of social media is bringing awareness to your business, it can also make your business seem more in touch compared to a website or other means. Furthermore, individuals can partner with influencers to advance their business. This is positive because you can reach people who would not check out your business website. One negative to social media is when it is used to tear someone down, I have seen people of all backgrounds being discredited, hurt, attacked on social media due to an issue with another person. This is negative because social media can ruin people's businesses and just their lives in general. One example on what makes social media messaging effective is influencer marketing such as stated in the test "when done correctly (Haenlein, M., Anadol, E., Farnsworth, T., Hugo, H., Hunichen, J., & Welte, D. 2020)." When influencer marketing is done correctly it can help a luxury brand such as Gucci in gaining over 750, 000 followers when partnered with influencers. Whereas, in Kim Kardashins case when running into issues with the FDA when partnering with a pharmaceutical company for a new product (Haenlein, M., Anadol, E., Farnsworth, T., Hugo, H., Hunichen, J., & Welte, D. 2020)."
