Some of the ways the supermarket chain can incorporate farm-to-table principles into its operations while still meeting consumer demands involve working with regional and local food systems. This involves the supermarket working closely with both farmers and consumers to deliver the best products that could be sold. Some distribution channels involve the aggregation of products from multiple farms that provides the consistency and volume needed to reach larger markets (SARE, 2021). These distribution channels would be critical for the supermarket to have better buying relationships with local farmers while giving customers better products. The benefits ofincorporating farm-to-table principles are the consumers that's willing to support supermarkets that support local farmers. Consumers will know the produce or food products are fresh and made by people and not any giant corporation. There's a sense of pride when people give their hard-earned money helping any local business including farmers. The risks involve food safety since sometimes farmers might not know if their food is safe for consumption. This also includes product recalls and if a farmer doesn't tell the truth if their food has genetically modified organisms (GMO's) (Poll, 2022).The data and communication that's necessary for the supermarket to make this endeavor involve real data on how farmers grow their product. This involves knowing if they use chemicals to help grow their products for example. Also, if those farmers can deliver if the demand is higher at times. More importantly being reliable and being able to have a realistic working relationship with local farmers when it comes to doing business. The main factors that will determine if I support farm-to-table principles to the supermarket is understanding the market. Do locals really care about supporting local farmers? Does this mean consumers pay more for produce? It's really about weighing all the options and understanding what's best for the customers and business. This also includes talking to local farmers and seeing what's the best way to do business while making sure the customers are happy.
