Upon completion of this assignment, students have
1. Identify risks and hazards.
2. Rate the hazard
3. Understand that most fire laws and regulations are reactive.
Instructions/Details
a. Working in teams of three (3) will choose a Designated Substance Table 1 of Ontario Regulation 490/09(example: Asbestos) and respond to the following:
Investigate how the substance is used or created, ie. Include specific tasks of how the substance is used and /or what it is used for
What are the risks (health effects, include any other risks to the environment, equipment, property or buildings)? Include the potential routes of exposure.
Include any vulnerabilities, ie. Workers that might be vulnerable (why or why not and how)
Rate the consequences of exposure (extreme, major, medium, minor) include the rational for your rating.
b. The student will prepare a 10min PowerPoint presentation. Use of visual aids (pictures, graphs, videos, etc.) should be included in your presentation
c. Additional Details
The assignment must be original and written by the student. Plagiarize or copied work from another student or other source will see the student receive a zero and be charged with academic dishonesty (following college guidelines).
