Unemployment and the Labor Force $-$ Discovering Data

It is sometimes said that the official unemployment sifatistic undercounts unemployment rates because it does not count discouraged workers. Discouraged workers are defined as workers who have given up looking for work but who would take a job if one were offered to them.

In addition to the official unemployment rate the Bureau of Labor Statistics $($BLS$)$ defines five other measures of unemployment. The six different measures of unemployment are depicted in the accompanying graph.
