Paint Drying Times

The drying time of a certain type of paint under specific test conditions follows an approximate normal distribution, with mean 75 minutes and standard deviation 9 minutes. Chemists have proposed a new additive designed to decrease the average drying time of the paint and conduct an experiment to test the drying time of the paint with the new additive to see if there was a deacrease.

The hypotheses tested are:

H0 :=75Ha :<75 In words, the null hypothesis is the mean drying time of the paint is 75 minutes. The

alternative hypothesis is that the mean drying time of the paint is less than 75 minutes.
