Every student needs to know how to calculate the GPA (as well as the CGPA). For starters, your GPA is the total score you get for each semester depending on the total credit hour taken (from the number of subjects registered) and the grade you obtain for each subject. This score, which ranges between 0.00 to 4.00, records your overall academic performance in a given semester. The CGPA, on the other hand, is the cumulative score for the entire semesters spent in the process of completing your study.
We will learn the GPA calculation (CGPA will be a bit more complicated) in this session for several reasons. Besides to confirm that the academic transcript you receive at the end of the semester is properly calculated, it can also help you plan during the course of the semester (e.g. what grade should you be planning to achieve for a subject if you want to obtain certain GPA).
Let's begin. You need a few details for the calculation: the subjects taken, the credit hour for each subject (obtained from the last digit in the course codes), and the grade point. For simplicity sake, the grade point table is attached below:
