summarize :Thank you so much for your post this week. I think it is great that your organization does a monthly rounding to get suggestions and comments from staff. This really would make staff not only feel important but also foster commitment from staff to enact change or be excellent at their job. Especially if the suggestions have come from themselves. There is a better buy-in from staff when they fully believe in what they are doing. Most importantly, if staff is made to feel important by including them in decision-making, they can feel a sense of belonging in their workplace. A mixed method analysis featured in JONA: The Journal of Nursing Administration found that leaders play a crucial role in making nurses feel like they belong by being authentic, acknowledging staff, fostering social justice, and being supportive of their staff's goals for growth and professional development (Traver et al.,2024). A sense of belonging can also help with retention. I know one of the main reasons I have stayed in my previous unit for as long as I did is because I genuinely felt like I belonged there, and my workers were and still are my work family.
