System Theory and Open System Theory. You will spend some time on this one. Ludwig Von Bertalanffy first presented his "General System Theory" in the 1930s. Since then, it has become a "grand theory" and adapted by others. Daniel Katz and Robert Kahn, in the mid 60s presented a view of Open Systems Theory that focuses on social structure (by the way--organizations are social structures).
