Part B (80 marks) This part consists of seven questions. Answer all questions in the spaces provided. Question 1 (11 marks) Southworth Company uses a job costing system and applies manufacturing overhead cost to jobs on the basis of the cost of direct materials used in production. Its predetermined overhead rate was based on a cost formula that estimated $228,000 of manufacturing overhead for an estimated allocation base of $152,000 direct material dollars. The following transactions took place during the year (all purchases and services were acquired on account): i. Raw materials purchased, $148,000. ii. Raw materials requisitioned for use in production, $141,000. iii. Utility bills incurred in the factory, $22,000. iv. Costs for salaries and wages were incurred as follows: Direct labour Indirect labour $ 221,000 $58,400 v. Maintenance costs incurred in the factory, $24,000. vi. Depreciation recorded for the year, $45,000 (80% relates to factory assets, and the remainder relates to selling and administrative assets). vii. Rental cost incurred on buildings, $84,000 (90% of the space is occupied by the factory, and 10% is occupied by sales and administration). viii. Cost of goods manufactured for the year, $552,000. ix. Sales for the year (all on account) totaled $1,100,000. These goods cost $530,000 according to their job cost sheets. The balances in the inventory accounts at the beginning of the year were as follows: Raw Materials Work in Process Finished Goods $16,000 $27,000 $39,000 Required: Complete the relevant T-accounts (provided on the next page) to show the flow of costs through the company's manufacturing accounts
