Background On July I, 2020 Bellarmine University officially moved its athletics programs from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I. "Our move to Division I will elevate our game as we compete against the best rivals in college sports. At the same time, the increased visibility of Division I will allow us to share the Bellarmine story with a larger audience and offer an excellent Bellarmine education to more students than ever before." Bellarmine President Dr. Susan M. Donovan said. Moving up to Division I means the Knights will get a lot more local and national exposure. It also means they will face a higher class of competition. Their history of success at the Division II level does not guarantee success at the Division I level as their opponents will be bigger, faster. and stronger than what they had faced in the past.
