John Dewey's legal pragmatism has four basic central tenets. All four specifically speak to the logical method of the law (i.e. legal reasoning and the judicial decision-making process). The tenets are: (1) logical method in the law is sufficiently similar to practical methods developed in other vocations; (2) logical method in the law is not necessarily syllogistic; (3) logical method in the law involves inquiry and exposition; and (4) logical method in the law should not be limited by antecedent principles or rules. However, the director said there is only time for discussion on one of the four tenets.
