The code of ethics indicates that clients have a right to collaborate in their treatment plan (CCPA, 2020). Part of informed consent includes understanding the benefits, risks, and limitations of therapy (CCPA, 2020). Therefore, informed consent is crucial, and I wonder if it is overwhelming for a client to decide. They may look to the professional to indicate which approach or modalities are best for their situation. As therapists we can collaborate with the client during intake and continue to reassess to see if the client has made any improvement or if they wish to change the plan. I do think that therapists will inevitably have a theoretical orientation that may be difficult to shake as it may be influenced by their worldview and our experience as therapists. What other ethical implications may arise with the here-and-now approach?
