The following materials were charged in a blast furnace to produce per ton of hot metal. Pellets: 1500 Kg 8% SiO2 0.02 % S 3.5 % CaO Coke: 450 Kg 3% SiO2 0.06% S Enough CaCO3 was added to have a slag basicity of 1.0. Equilibrium between carbon saturated iron, slag and gas phase was achieved (i.e. primary reactions were in equilibrium) at 1400 oC. Hot metal contains 1% Si and the slag phase has 10 % Al2O3.

a. Calculate weight of the slag produced for per ton of hot metal.
