The Lansdowne Company sells clothing at many locations

throughout New England. The companys headquarters are in Boston

where its centralized computer system is located. The company has

its own Lansdowne credit card (LCC). The LCC billing department is

located at headquarters.

At each store a customer presents the item to be purchased

along with a LCC. The sales clerk keys in the quantity and scans the

UPC code on the tag attached to each clothing item into a

computerized cash register, then manually prepares the LCC charge

sales slips for credit sales. At the end of the shift, the clerk forwards

the LCC slips to the store cashier. At 5:00 p.m. each day the store

cashier batches the LCC slips and sends the slips with a batch

control slip to the cash receipts section in Boston.
