The Lesser Widdlefish lives in the Colorado River-spending most of the year in the deep pools along the river. Widdlefish require shallow, rocky shoals in the Spring for spawning. These shoals, in drought years, do not receive enough flow to flush out the sediments that have accumulated over the year-clogging the shoals and preventing the widdlefish from spawning. The US Bureau of Reclamation manages the dams along the river, and has refused to manage the dams flow over the year to flush out the shoals.
