The organization I chose was OSF, a local organization not far from the town where I live. Right now this organization is facing a few challenges with their employees understanding organizational change, and behaviors or actions that are relevant in order to meet the organization's goals, and performance. A few of my close friends who work for the organization spoke about the many challenges they are having. The two Organizational Development theories I thought would be appropriate for these types of issues included, Organizational Development Theory, and Campbell's Theory of Performance. Organizational Development Theory is dedicated to expanding the working knowledge of individuals to enhance and to make more effective organizational performance and change. Campbell's Theory of Performance focuses on work oriented behaviors that contribute to the organization's goals and peoples fulfillment.
The two theories that I chose reflect on the issues that OSF is experiencing due to the problems the organization is having with organizational change and meeting goals, behavior, and performance. Both of these theories play a key role in helping organizations deal with issues with goals, performance, and change. Organizational development theory approach to change involves a critical science based process that helps organizations build their capacity to change and achieve greater effectiveness by developing, improving, and reinforcing strategies, structures, and processes. I believe OSF could really benefit from both of these theories, "individual performance is highly important for an organization as a whole and for the individuals working in it" (Sonnentag, & Freese, 2005).
OSF is an organization that I believe would benefit by adding these theories to help resolve the issues they are having. Teams, individuals, departments, and the overall structure interact together and influence outcomes. By focusing on these dynamics these theories can offer valuable information, for improving effectiveness, efficiency, and performance. "To be successful they must do more than react to changes, they need to be proactive", (Haynes, 2015). In order to explain these two theories that would be relevant to a client, the methods I would use would be to use various techniques that include, provide opportunities for an individual to develop his or her full potential, seek an increase in the overall effectiveness of an organization, create an environment in which individuals have challenging work, and treat each individual in an organization as having important, complex needs. I believe these methods would explain each of these theories and how important they are to resolving issues in the organization.
