The plaintiff, Susan King, met the defendant, Brad Durie, in June and they began living together in August.One September evening, a friend of Brad's came to visit.Susan and Brad had an argument about what music should be played on the stereo.Although they resolved their disagreement, Brad remained angry.After further verbal altercations, Brad followed Susan into the bedroom where he struck her on the face, grabbed her by the throat, and threw her on the floor, injuring her back and causing her to black out.Brad also smashed her clock radio and a mirror.He only stopped attacking her when his friend pulled him off of her.Susan was taken to the hospital where she was placed in a neck brace and arm sling.She suffered a sore neck, facial bruises, and a chipped tooth.It was about two weeks before she felt well enough to return to work.Brad was charged criminally, and Susan brought a civil action against him.
