The purpose of this paper assignment is to challenge your self-development by reading a popular press leadership book and identifying ways that you could improve your strategic leadership competencies. We all have areas of strength and areas that need improvement. According to the article you read in week 1 titled, Making yourself Indispensable, it is more worthwhile to begin developing competencies in which you are mediocre than to try to develop skills that are truly weaknesses. The data you received in your 360-Degree feedback report will provide an overview of such areas of mediocrity, and provide some insight on how people perceive your skills in different areas. Using the data in your 360-Degree Feedback report, please identify 1-2 competencies that you would like to develop. Then, begin searching for popular press leadership books that address this area. Chose one title that resonates with you and read the book over during weeks 3-5 of the course. Then, construct a paper that addresses the following content areas. 1. The area of weakness identified in your report. Why that area is important for strategic leadership, and where you believe that you could improve. 2. A review of the book. This should include the main premise of the book, main points made by the author, recommendations or solutions offered, and why these recommendations are important (a mini book report, if you will). 3. How the lessons in the books can be applied to your own leadership skills and competencies to make you stronger in this area. 4. Goals that you would like to meet for improving this area in the coming year. How these goals will be measured, and how you intend to improve overall.
