The State University is a major public university with an enrollment of 30,000 in the State. Recently, the state government decided to cut the public higher education budget in order to fund other "more deserving" programs. The State University had to lay off 200 employees and close some programs as a result of the budget cut. There is a good chance that more cuts are coming. Faculty and staff haven't had a salary raise in years, and some poor decisions made by the university administration also caused some prominent faculty members to leave. The morale of faculty and staff has been low, and many people feel underappreciated.
