The student will fill out the "Teaching Demonstration" form on one activity plan that was his/her choice (Art, Music, Movement, or Dramatic Play, or Language & Literacy) that was written earlier in the semester. If you like one of your modified lesson plans better, you may write one of those. Just make sure you put on the form which one you are doing. You must make clear on the form which one you are doing and include the Title of the Activity.

You write it as if you were presenting the plan to young children. You must include conversations with the children. You can write what you think children will say and/or think, or ask questions. If you redo the original plan, make sure to write - "Re-do" on the front of the lesson plan, so I know you redid it. The student must provide the instructor a clean, corrected new plan that you wrote. This may give you more points on the original plan.

Adapted Play-Based Literacy Instructional Plan for Toddlers

Materials: required include stuffed toys, storybooks, alphabet letters, blocks, a whiteboard or chalkboard, crayons or markers, and a whiteboard or chalkboard.

Objective: The goal of this activity is to familiarize toddlers with the idea of literacy and to encourage them to investigate letters and sounds in a way that is both fun and interactive.

Introduction: By introducing yourself to the younger children and give them a warm welcome. Explain that you will be participating in a game that uses both the sounds and the letters of the alphabet today. Inquire of the preschoolers whether or not they are aware of what letters and sounds are and what they do. Explain that in order to gain a deeper understanding of letters and their associated sounds, you will be using various playthings, books, and blocks. Explain to the toddlers that it is their responsibility to assist you in exploring and learning more about the sounds and letters in the alphabet.

Procedure:Step one of the procedure is to teach the toddlers their first letters of the alphabet. Show them the alphabet letters, explain the shapes, and ask them to identify which shape corresponds to which letter. Inquire of them to name the letters and inquire of them to point out the letters in their own name. Be sure to call attention to the individual letters that compose their name.

When the toddlers are comfortable with the alphabet, it's time to teach them the sounds each letter makes. Have the toddlers listen to you read them some easy books, and then ask them to name the sounds that each letter makes. The toddlers can identify letter sounds with the help of the plush toys, and they can practice making the sounds on their own as well.

As we move on to the next stage of the activity, give the toddlers some blocks to play with. Request of them to utilize the blocks in the construction of a straightforward structure. Ask the toddlers to name the letters they are using in their construction, and then describe the appearance and sound of each letter to them as they work. Give each of the toddlers a crayon or marker, and then instruct them to write their name on the chalkboard or whiteboard. Make sure they are aware of the sounds that are associated with each letter of their name by pointing out the letters in their name.

Questions to Enhance Children's Learning:Ask the preschoolers questions like, "What letter did you use to build your structure?" and "How tall is your structure?" - Do you know what sound this letter makes? Are there any other words that you can think of that start with this letter? I was wondering if you could come up with a word that rhymes with this word.

Ending: To bring the activity to a close, have the toddlers present their creations and tell their stories to the other members of the group. Talk to them about the different sounds and letters that they used, and compliment them on the effort that they put in. Instruct the toddlers to practice writing and explore the sounds and letters of the alphabet while they are at home.
