The surface area and volume of a solid particle are at 2 . 5 1 0 - 7 m 2 and 5 . 0 1

The surface area and volume of a solid particle are at 2.510-7m2 and 5.010-12m3 respectively.
Density of the solid is 1200kgm3. Calculate:
a. The sphericity of the particle
Ans: 0.57 say at 0.6(to use the chart)
b. The equivalent volume diameter of the particle
Ans: 2.1210-4m
C. The terminal velocity of particle falling through water at 30C
Ans 0.0019ms(density difference is very small)
A quantity of solid particles in (2) is mixed with water at 30C to form a slurry of 30wt% solids.
Determine the settling (or terminal) velocity of the solids in the slurry.
Compare your answer for (3) and 2(c).
Ans: =0.747,m=1052kgm3,vt=0.00088ms
