The two key concepts I have chosen are confidentiality and nonmaleficence.

Confidentiality is very important to me. I used to see a doctor who treated my grandparents, my aunt, and my mom and stepdad. My grandmother would return from her doctor visits and be able to tell me almost everything I discussed with during my recent appointment. Even though I didn't keep much from my grandmother (she was truly my best friend), I felt this was a gross violation of my privacy (not to mention illegal!!). It is of the utmost importance that a patient's private information remains private. Everythingfrom the actual appointment to medical records, and billing information.

Nonmaleficence means that a practitioner must take into consideration all available treatment options and do what will cause the least amount of harm, even if that means no treatment at all. For me, this is important as I would want my doctor or nurse to be completely honest with me about my treatment options and tell me if they think they have done as much as they can. This will allow me to make educated decisions about next steps, if any were to exist.
