There is frequently a disconnect between the chief of police and the line or "street" officers. Like any occupation, many employees don't like their boss, and policing is no different. Frequently, when the chief feels like they have "lost the guys," or to help keep morale high, the chief will have occasional or monthly get-togethers where officers can stop by and hang out with the chief. For example, "Coffee with the Chief!" Sometimes, the chief might hold a question-and-answer session where officers can ask the chief about the department. These types of things are more needed in large departments with hundreds of officers because your interaction with the chief in a department like this is likely zero.

Now, let us say that in one of these large departments, the chief is holding a question-and-answer session with officers. It is well known in the department that the chief is engaged in an extramarital affair with the Mayor's administrative assistant. This is an extramarital affair, meaning the chief is married, and it was confirmed that this was primarily going on in the chief's office. Again, it was confirmed so there is no doubt about the truthfulness of the situation.

During a question and answer session with the Chief in a large auditorium, one brave officer said, "Chief, it has come to the attention of many of us here in our department that you are currently engaged in an affair with the Mayor's secretary. What do you have to say for yourself and your behavior?"

For Part I, you do not need to include citations. After putting in some critical thought, please respond to the following questions:

1) How do you think the chief responded? What do you think he said?
2) Do you think this should be of concern to the officers in the department? Do you

think this should be of concern to the officers in the department?
3) Is this police corruption/misconduct? I'm not concerned about any technical

definitions here of corruption/misconduct. Instead, I'm more concerned about your opinion.

Part 2

For Part II, provide an overview containing the definition, prevalence, and ways to handle your chosen misconduct.- Sexual Misconduct
