One of the American Psychological Association's five learning goals and outcomes for the undergraduate psychology major focuses onethical and social responsibility in a diverse world.Whether you intend to pursue a career as a helping professional or you want to conduct psychological research, issues of diversity will certainly be present.

For example, as a helping professional you will likely work with clients from cultures different than your own. How will you ensure that your own biases or cultural background don't interfere with your ability to be an effective helper? As a researcher, how will you ensure that your research is representative of the population you are studying? Diverse perspectives can lead to new research and ideas.

The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about the role that diversity plays within the field of psychology. How might issues of diversity impact a students' educational experience as a psychology major? How does diversity impact the psychology workforce? Consider your own professional goals and the role that cultural humility and cultural competence might play.
