This exercise gives you the opportunity to conduct a mini work analysis with a job incumbent using the interview method and the O*NET web site. Here's your process: Step 1. Employee selection - select one employee of your choice to interview. You should choose someone who works full-time (over 20-hours per week) in their job and who has worked in that job for at least six months. The interview may take one hour or more and you may want to record the interview. You should supplement the data derived from the interview with observational information (e.g., watch the person at work, visit the workplace, or look at samples of the person's work). Step 2. O*NET Job Description - go to the O*NET web site (http://online.onetcenter.org) and identify the top KSAs that are required for successful performance in this occupation. Enter the job title into the "occupation quick search" window or the "occupation search keyword" search window and click search. You may have to experiment with different job titles to find a close match. Use both the "Summary" and "Detail" reports to construct your KSA list. Step 3. Knowledge, skill, and ability statements (KSAs) - develop a list of 15-20 KSA
