I will explain how I would use classical conditioning to teach a child to start getting ready for bed. I would use music as the stimulus for this behavior, playing certain songs to signal that it is time to begin unwinding. Firstly, I would play a song while getting the child ready for a bath, another song while they are brushing their teeth, and lastly a song while tucking them into bed. The songs of choice would have to be calm, kid-friendly music that would lull them rather than energize and rile them up. With time and consistency and through association, the music will eventually become a cue for the corresponding action.
