This is The Balance Sheet of MYOB Group Limited,

1. Describe the balance sheet generally and the financial information it contains. Of what use is this financial information? What corporate governance principles relate to the quality of financial reporting?

2. Assets Comment on the asset composition and the asset types for your company? How do they relate to the companys business? Has there been any change over the year? Look in the notes to the accounts and the accounting policies. What are the policies on accounting for non-current assets? Have any revaluations or impairments occurred in the past year? What has been the financial impact of these?

3. Liabilities and Equity. Look at both the both current and non-current liabilities of your company. Has there been any change over the year? Do you think there is a reasonable level of debt? Explain your answer. In the equity section, have any shares been issued over the year? Does the company have ordinary and preference shares on issue? Check the statement of changes in equity and the notes to the accounts and explain any changes in contributed capital. Have there been any changes in reserves? If so detail these changes. Summarise any other changes in equity.

4. Are there intangible assets? What are they? Is there any evidence that the company has intangible assets that do not appear on the balance sheet? (For example, does the company have a lot of expenditure on R&D that may have resulted in the development of intangible assets?) Do you think it is reasonable to include intangible assets in the balance sheet? In your answer, include references to professional or academic articles (at least TWO) on the recording of intangible assets and to the accounting standards that relate to intangible assets.
