This is the second of our portfolio discussion forums. This time around, we have much more experience with the tool and having wrapped up the evaluation part of the course, we should have a better grasp on the financial aspect of the companies we are working with.
I am going to post the class rankings and show how we are performing against benchmarks.
Your role be a leader and a participant! Remember, your discussion grade is 20% of your overall gradeand it is divided into two aspects participation and leadership. You certainly all know how to participate with quality and relevant content, but be sure to understand what it means to lead.
- Share your best practices
- Identify the trades that you made that didnt pan out and how/why you shifted direction
- Discuss your growth since you first started trading
- Provide examples of other sources (internal or external) that helped you make decisions
- Guide each other
These are just a few suggestions as how to demonstrate leadership but feel free to showcase in any way you can.
What I would like for you to do is post an introductory thread that has your positions that you currently have in your portfolio. I would also like your rationale for choosing the equities (or other investments) that you chose to include. This rationale should be more informed than the first time through. Remember, this discussion forum should allow us to demonstrate our growth and reflection on what we originally had as rationale or even portfolio positions. Even those that are more informed will have the opportunity to reflect as to whether their informed decision played out as expected. Remember that even if we think a company is going to perform strongly...we never REALLY know how the market will react. It is still a gamble. However, just like in sports or any other risk endeavor, those who are more informed are in a better position to make it out on the winning side.
Not to be too repetitive but remember, there are two components that make up your discussion grade. You are graded on participation and leadership. This guidance aspect and community sharing that I reference above is going to showcase your discussion leadership.
- Post your current portfolio with rationale (feel free to respond to classmates that had similar positions or completely different positions)
- Share best practices and/or sources that helped you grow your knowledge
- Build on your classmates best practices with feedback to them...and/or help guide them through their frustrations
