This week we are going to play outside enjoying some outside meditation--to see the outside for the first time. What do you smell, taste, hear? Nature meditation is one of my favorites! I especially love meditating while walking in the woods. Feeling the air on my face as I relax is my connection to the forest. The sounds of wildlife; the smell of rain or snow -- all are amazing. The soft wind through the trees --meditating while walking in the woods makes walking a new experience each time for me --even if I am walking a path I've been to many times. It's always different...always new.
Being aware or mindful of the space we occupy is very important. We are visitors in this space. In the forest, I am nothing but a visitor taking up space in the woods, sharing the air of this planet -- we need to be more aware of how our presence affects those around us. Nature meditation is our beginning.
Pick a space in the outdoors. A space that you can get to at least a couple of times for this practice. Once you find your space, stop and listen. If your brain starts to wander, gently bring it back to the present. Focus on the listening, the smells, sensations, atmosphere--then, share your experience with others. Share the experience - not just the good and awe-inspiring moments, but also share any negatives you experienced; but remember to be kind to yourself about the negatives.
