To keep pace with changing technology, officers of the Honolulu Police Department $($HPD$)$ needed a better means to perform such tasks as running a license plate number while simultaneously sending back field reports to precinct headquarters. Through the use of a $[$fill in the blank$],$ officers were able to use the Internet to connect with the information stored in state databases and to connect with their superiors.
