TRAVEL AGENCY WEBSITE

Assume that you have been asked to design the interface of a travel agencys website. That interface should consist of a number of interrelated interface screens. The user should be able to perform a number of tasks, such as booking tickets to and from a number of different destinations around the world. Assume that your employ, the travel agency, has given you considerable freedom regarding the websites design in the hope you might come up with ideas that might give them a competitive advantage. It is up to you to make decisions in a wide area of subjects, varying from the number and type of services provided by their online service, to the way the actual process works.

Assessment Tasks

  1. Produce a brief report (couple of pages long) outlining possible scenarios of use what types of tasks the users might want to perform. As part of this report try to identify Ps, As, Cs, and Ts (PACT). Tip: you might wish to consider different types of users, with different goals and needs.
  2. Perform HTA (Hierarchical Task Analysis). The outcome of this analysis should be submitted in either textual or graphical form no need to do both. Apart from the resulting inverted tree you should also submit possible plans.
  3. Produce a list of requirements in the form of a table. Then try to classify each one of them as functional or non-functional. Your table should contain at least 10 items.
  4. Develop a prototype of the website. The prototype should provide a certain level of functionality users should be able to navigate, insert information in fields, etc. Cleary developing a fully functional website is beyond the scope of this exercise. Some fake screens can be used to illustrate the interface design of the parts of the system that are not functional.
  5. Justification of the design. Provide screenshots and commends. Explain your design decisions - how do they relate to the HCI principles.
