Criminal justice agency administrators are responsible for making operational decisions that impact not only those working for the agency, but also those being served by the agency (victims, offenders, and the general public). While there are many outside influences that determine how operational decisions will be made, the decision making style of an administrator is a major factor in how he or she will assess an issue and make an operational decision.

Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2012) identified four specific decision-making styles:

(1) Directive;

(2) Analytical;

(3) Conceptual; and

(4) Behavioral.

identify a specific segment of criminal justice (e.g., law enforcement, courts, corrections). Based upon the characteristics of the selected agency and the factors that administrators within that type of agency must consider, select the type of decision-making style that is most appropriate. Compare and contrast the selected decision-making style with the other three styles to support why you believe it is the best type for an operational decision maker of that type of agency.
