Generally, the main influence methods of top management teams of organizations includes directing decision making, resource allocation, role modelling, reward systems and promotion of other leaders of the organization. However, before examining the various influence processes in detail, we need to answer various questions regarding the leader influence process. First, we need to examine the main factors that affect the influence process ofdifferent leaders. Some of these factors may include the level of authority that the leader possesses in respect to the firm affairs, degree of autonomy and the personality traits of the leader himself. Another question worth asking about the influence process is the impact of the influence method adopted by a leader in the organization. These include the impact on the output level of the firm, motivation of the firm employees as well as encouraging development of harmonious relationships by firm employees. This question is significantly relevant to our discussion since the influence method adopted by an organizational leader affects the outcomes of his followers. My individual project this week is to write a brief article about "CEOs and presidents\" that includes the comparison of leadership styles of the three leaders. I am planning to follow the below mentioned process to pursue this research: 1. Selection of Leaders: I will select the three influential leaders particularly from Fortune 500 companies to study their individual leadership styles. 2. Developing a General Questionnaire: I will develop a general questionnaire for my reference as it would help me to carry forward my online search. It will ask questions like a. The questions pertaining to the factors affecting influence process such as degree of autonomy, power relationships, level in formal hierarchy, personality traits and skill inventory of the leaders to understand the influence exert by any leader in his organisation. b. The questions pertaining to the relationship between the personality differences and leadership influence. c. The questions that focus on the role of interpersonal relations on the impact created on the followers. d. The questions that will help in determining the type of leadership such as benevolent, authoritative, paternalistic or laissez faire. e. The questions to analyse the impact of variables like culture, climate, situation, workforce diversity, organisational structure (mechanistic v/s organic) on the leadership outcomes. f. The questions that focus on the analysis of leadership impact on performance of the employees, goal achievement, productivity, efficiency, motivation level, job satisfaction, organisational citizenship and attrition rate. g. The next set of questions will focus on the processes that the leaders and top management team (TMT) are using to impact the organization such as resource allocation, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards, centralised v/s decentralised decision making, promotional strategies, role modeling, etc. 3. Data Search: I will use various secondary data sources to find answer to these questions. Various cases and scenarios that are available online will be analysed. 4. Personally, I like to research the author of any references I intend to use in my writings, I believe this helps to ensure that my writing will be free of any bias information, or authors who tend to extend their own personal beliefs or opinions into their writings. I also like to look to see if these authors use credible or reliable evidence in their writings to back up any claims their make.
