Vaping is a relatively new trend that was originally positionedas a healthier alternative to smoking. "74% of participantsreported not smoking for at least a few weeks since using thee?cigarette" (Dawkins et al, 2013). However, it has become popularwith people, especially the young, who have never smoked before,and it has been proven addictive and even dangerous in certaindoses (Robertson, 2016, p.15). While up to 35% of high schoolersreport having vaped at least once on any given week, the scientificcommunity and public health officials still lag behind inaddressing the concerns raised by this growing popularity ofvaping. It is time to start paying attention, or "Can theinternational public health research community improve thecoordination of scientific and timely research for policydevelopment to address vaping? (Cox, 2015, p.2).
