a. Suppose you are curious about determining if SAT scores predict success in college. In other words, you want to estimate the parameters of this linear empirical model: =0 +1+ Make a scatterplot which plots College GPA on the x-axis and SAT Total on the y-axis. Include a trendline through this data. Just by looking at the graph, does there appear to be a positive, negative, or negligible relationship between these variables?
b. Estimate SSxx, SSyy, and SSxy where x is the SAT Total and y is College GPA.
c. Estimate the slope parameter of the empirical model in part a.
d. Estimate the intercept parameter of the empirical model in part b.
e. Calculate the predicted GPA in column F in the spreadsheet.
f. Calculate the sum of squared errors (SSE).
g. Calculate.
h. Is there sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis of no relationship between GPA and SAT scores with a 5% rejection region? (Hint: calculate the z- or t-statistic first).
