POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Parks Operations (North), directs, instructs and works with staff to maintain various grounds and facilities throughout Parks North as required. The Leadhand Parks North relieves the Zone Leadhand as required.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Directs, instructs and works with full time and seasonal staff; oversees the completion of work related to general maintenance, park clean-up and winter operations.
- Delivers or transports equipment, supplies or crews.
- Ensures equipment is properly maintained and operated.
- Reports on problems relating to facilities, equipment and personnel to the Supervisor.
- Compiles time sheets, work orders, compensation and incident reports.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Secondary school education;
- Must have a minimum of two years' experience in the Parks North/South Sections
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the operational requirements of the Parks and Open Spaces Division.
Skills/Abilities:
- Must possess the ability to be tactful and courteous when dealing with the public
- Must be fluent in oral and written English
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and be capable of issuing clearly understandable written and oral instructions
- Must be able to obtain a certificate in chain saw operation
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class "D" Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a "Z" endorsement
- Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- Must be at a basic skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software
Assets:
- A basic knowledge in the care of farm animals
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- May be required to provide a successful driver's record (uncertified)
- Must be willing to work various shifts, as required
- Must undergo a successfulCriminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
