The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed a rule mandating vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications to lessen crash risks. More vehicles are expected to be outfitted with dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) technology, which will enable vehicles to communicate with each other and an intelligent infrastructure. As such, connected vehicles form physical networks where links are derived from physical proximity. At the same time, occupants (i.e., passengers and drivers) are members of various social networks. Vehicles traveling together are part of networks of convoy and platoons connected via cellular networks.
