w w w w wWw wWw The steam power plant installation in a chemical plant must supply the following requirements: 1. 4500 kg/hr of process steam at 5 atm and 180C after the first turbine 2. 910 kg/hr of process steam at 1.5 atm after the second turbine 3. 1500 hp from the turbines The steam boiler will operate at 12 atm. The power requirement will be obtained from two turbines, one taking superheated steam from the boiler and discharging steam at 5 atm and 180C. Part of this will be returned to the boiler, where it will be superheated to 255C, and then will enter the second turbine. 910 kg/hr of the exhaust steam (at 1.5 atm) will be bled off for requirement 2 and the remainder sent to the condenser. w W w 2 Assume both turbines operate reversibly and adiabatically and that all parts of the power plant operate at constant pressure, except the two turbines and the feedwater pump. Also assume that the make-up water for the boiler is added to the condensate from the condenser at the same temperature as the condensate. a a. Draw a schematic flow diagram of the operations. b. Sketch the cycle on a T-S diagram. c. Calculate the required water rate to the boiler. d. Calculate the heat that must be supplied by the boiler. e. Calculate the efficiency of the cycle. f. Pump work will be calculated. g. If this power will be obtained by burning coal having a heating value of 4000 cal/g, how much of that coal will be required per hour and per day (in tons)? Note: All pressures given are absolute pressures
