Week 4: Team Assignment - Roles and Responsibilities Agreement/Evaluation By now you should have "met up" with your team in the Groups section of the left-hand navigation menu. For the Team Assignment due next week, your team will be playing the role of a group of managers from departments within the same organization and your respective employees are not getting along. Collaboration and cooperation between departments is deteriorating and it is beginning to impact operational performance negatively. You have put your collective departmental heads together and decided that you will hold an off-site retreat with your employees to get things back on track. But first, you need to be clear about your own roles and responsibilities in planning the retreat. Management Team Roles and Responsibilities Agreement/Evaluation It is business best practice to draw up a team charter or agreement at the start of a team project and, as leaders, you want to model this for your teams. In business, time is money and it is a limited resource so, as the retreat planning team, your roles, responsibilities and expectations must be clear in order that you can each proceed with a solid understanding of who is doing what, why and by when. Creating the team agreement will not only help to guide your efforts as you create the retreat training program but will also enable your boss (instructor) to provide feedback about team performance and participation, flag up any issues for you to think about, and clarify any points that are confusing before you begin the actual project. Your agreement should clearly: . identify roles and responsibilities of each department manager (team members) . reflect key concepts such as: o expectations for teamwork o timelines and processes for problems solving and decision making o communication . negotiation and conflict resolution - particularly how to address low or non-performers
