The "progress trap" is a situation in which technological, social, or economic progress leads to negative consequences or unforeseen problems. Also, it occurs when advancements, initially seen as positive, but result in challenges or dilemmas that are difficult to overcome. The documentary film "Who Killed the Electric Car" presents the rise and fall of electric vehicles (EVs) in the early 2000s and the kind of "progress trap" that related to short-term benefits leading to long-term problems. The decline of electric vehicles in the 20th century is an example of progress trap that bring attention to the electric vehicles industry that faced so may challenges and difficulties at that time. While the gas-powered vehicles were growing more popular, electric cars appeared as a "boom" in the transportation industry. At that time, electric cars gained quickly and more popularly that leading to disrupt the conventional automotive industry. The short-term focus on immediate profitability and the maintenance of existing business models led to a lack of sustained commitment to electric vehicles production. In addition, the traditional oil industry's influence also brings short-term benefits from the continued dominance of internal combustion engine vehicles, maintaining its market share and profitability. However, the resistance to a shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric cars resulted in the suppression of a cleaner and more sustainable mode of transportation. Electric cars gained popularly reducing gas-powered vehicles which dependent on fossil fuels and decrease environmental impacts. The gain of electric vehicles reduced the consuming of fossil fuel and slow down the growth of traditional oil industry.
